interim Social Worker - Adolescent & Exploitation Service
Pay rate: 226.43 per day PAYE
Hours per week: 35-37 Monday to Friday, normal working hours
This opening assignment is for 6 months

A Social Worker is required to work within the Adolescent and Exploitation Service. To provide a comprehensive Social Work service to Children and Families across the Stockton Borough and work flexibly across Children's Services and with other agencies, partners and stakeholders to meet the needs of children, young people and families. To have a good understanding of contextual safeguarding, MACE, CCE, CSE and County Lines and be able to work within a multi-agency setting, including with professionals from outside of the Council, particularly the Police both inside and outside of the Tees Valley area.
Key responsibilities:
* Undertake comprehensive assessments of need in conjunction with appropriate staff from other teams and/or agencies in accordance with agreed policies, procedures, and guidelines.
* Undertake and participate in risk assessments and risk management strategies, and to refer to other agencies where appropriate.
* Formulate and design appropriate Exploration Team Around the Child (ETAC) plans, to meet identified needs in line with agreed policies and budgetary provision. This will be in conjunction with the allocated Social Worker using the co-working model.
* Lead the investigation of allegations of significant harm to children in consultation with other professionals. Use the law, regulatory and statutory guidance to inform practice decisions. Make use of the best evidence from research to inform the complex judgements and decisions needed to support families and protect children from intra-familial and extra-familial harm.
* Ensure that individual professional standards are maintained, including full compliance with policy and procedural guidelines and accepting primary responsibility for the level and quality of casework recording.
* Contribute to managing the team and the achievement of service objectives. Contribute to the management of people in the team and other professionals within the Adolescent Service area, support their learning and development and undertake your own personal development.
* Contribute to managing Section 17 budget in an effective and achievable manner and the achievement of financial objectives.
* Work flexibly across Children's Services and with other agencies, partners, and stakeholders to meet the needs of children, young people and families. This may include working outside of normal hours, early morning, late evening and if planned, weekends.

Qualifications:
* Social Work England registered.
* Degree in social work or equivalent social work qualification, e.g. Post Graduate Diploma in Social Work (PDDipSW) Certificate of Qualification in Social Work (CQSW), Diploma in Social Work (DipSW), Certificate in Social Services (CSS).
* Full UK Driving Licence and access to own vehicle for work purposes.
Experience:
* Skilled and competent social worker, who has experience of child protection and court work and has an interest in developing innovative care plans.
* Experience of direct working with children and families.
* Experience of evaluating, monitoring and developing the quality of childcare practice.
* Experience in managing Child Protection cases, cases within both Private and Public Proceedings.
* Experience in developing care plans and implementing care packages.
Knowledge:
* Knowledge of a range of social work theories relevant to the role.
* Knowledge of the main social care services and resources provided by the statutory, voluntary and independent sector.
* Knowledge in the completion of Single Assessments.
* Knowledge of the Public Law Outline.
* Have an understanding of working with difficult to reach young people between the ages of 10-18 and work comprehensively with the family and young person to achieve positive outcomes.
* Have an understanding of young people and families who may have been involved with MACE, Child Criminal Exploitation (CCE) and Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE).
Skills & Abilities:
* Ability to recognise own professional limitations and know how and when to seek advice.
* Proven assessment skills.
* Anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive practice and non-judgemental stance.
* Able to work well under pressure.
* Ability to maintain professional standards.
* The role requires frequent travel between venues across the borough, therefore a full driving licence and access to a motor vehicle is essential.
* Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
