Purpose and Objectives of Post:
As the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) for Tameside, you will manage allegations of abuse or misconduct involving professionals working with children. Leveraging your extensive safeguarding experience, you will provide vital advice, guidance, support, and challenge to organizations within the children's workforce. This role also includes raising awareness and understanding of safe working practices and safer recruitment through training and direct engagement with partners and agencies.

Key Objectives:
1. Manage allegations against staff and volunteers effectively and promptly.
2. Provide advice to organizations and individuals who work with children.
3. Raise awareness and provide training on managing allegations and the LADO role.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Lead the provision of a high-quality, professional LADO service.
2. Work in accordance with legislative requirements and local, regional, and national policies.
3. Offer advice and guidance to employers and voluntary organizations.
4. Liaise with police, HR departments, and other agencies chair meetings regarding allegations.
5. Understand the remit and processes of other agencies.
6. Keep effective records and maintain systems for managing allegations.
7. Chair Initial Consideration Meetings and review meetings as necessary.
8. Monitor and track allegations to ensure timely and consistent resolution.
9. Liaise with external regulatory bodies regarding complex allegations.
10. Prepare reports for the Senior Leadership Team and Tameside Safeguarding Children Partnership.
11. Maintain effective communication with partners regarding safer recruitment practices.
12. Promote and deliver managing allegations training within the service and to partners.
13. Foster a culture of learning and lead local reviews or audits on safe recruitment practice.
14. Ensure compliance with statutory duties to safeguard children.
15. Perform additional duties as required to meet service objectives.

Person Specification:
Essential Criteria:
1. Satisfactory enhanced disclosure under the Disclosure & Barring Service.
2. Recognized and current professional qualification in Social Work, Education, or Health.
3. Substantial post-qualification experience in child protection.
4. Substantial knowledge of managing allegations and relevant legislation.
5. Knowledge of safe recruitment and selection issues.
6. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively across professional boundaries.
7. Good standard of written and oral communication.
8. Proficient ICT skills for case recording and management information purposes.
9. Ability to chair multi-agency meetings.
10. Problem-solving skills and ability to manage sensitive issues.
11. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Criteria:
1. Management or supervisory experience/qualification.
2. Experience in developing and implementing training programs.
3. Substantial knowledge of information sharing and Data Protection legislation.
4. Critical awareness of current issues and evidence-based practice research.
5. Experience of partnership working.
