About the Role
Do you have a passion for improving the lives of children and young people? Slough Children's Services is seeking a dedicated Fostering Independent Reviewing Officer to ensure the quality and compliance of fostering arrangements.
You will play a key role in chairing Annual Household Reviews, ensuring that Foster Carers (and a small number of Adopters) meet statutory guidelines and best practices to meet children's needs. You'll bring an independent, objective perspective to celebrate achievements and identify areas for development.
Key Responsibilities
Chair Annual Reviews: Lead thorough evaluations of Foster Carers and Adopters in line with statutory requirements.
Safeguarding and Compliance: Ensure fostering arrangements uphold the highest standards of safeguarding.
Report Writing: Prepare clear, concise, and evidence-based reports for fostering reviews.
Collaboration: Work closely with the Independent Reviewing Officers for Children and the Foster with Slough team.
Professional Oversight: Provide objective assessments and recommendations to support improvements in fostering services.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
Qualified Social Worker: Degree in Social Work with registration under Social Work England.
Extensive Post-Qualifying Experience: Experience as a children's Social Worker with managerial exposure (Assistant Team Manager level or higher).
Legal Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Children Act 1989, Care Planning Regulations, and the IRO Handbook (DfE 2010).
Effective Challenger: Ability to escalate concerns and challenge decisions to ensure the best outcomes for children.
Collaborator and Trainer: Experience contributing to training forums and participating in departmental initiatives.
