Job Title: Senior Social Worker - Together for Families Team
Pay Rate: £42 per hour
Location: Civic Office, Bridge Street, Reading RG1 2LU
Role Overview
Reading Council's Together for Families Service is looking for an experienced Senior Social Worker to join their team. The service adopts a trauma-informed, relational-based approach to social work, ensuring that children, young people, and their families receive consistent and meaningful support from the same allocated social worker throughout their journey with Children's Social Care. This reduces transitions and helps foster trusting relationships to achieve the best outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Relational Social Work:
Build and maintain meaningful and trusting relationships with children, young people, and their families to fully understand their lived experiences.
Provide consistent support to allocated families throughout the life of their case.
Assessment and Intervention:
Undertake assessments of children and families, develop outcome-based care plans, and implement effective interventions.
Ensure plans are informed by the voices of children, families, and evidence-based practice.
Safeguarding:
Identify risks and ensure that children and young people are safeguarded in line with statutory requirements.
Participate in child protection processes, court proceedings, and strategy discussions as required.
Supportive Practice:
Work collaboratively with the Missing and Exploitation team, Supporting Families team, and other multi-agency partners to provide holistic support.
Trauma-Informed Approach:
Apply principles of trauma-informed practice to understand and respond to families' needs effectively.
Duty Week:
Be present in the office during duty week (5 days required) to respond to urgent matters and provide immediate support.
Candidate Requirements
Qualifications:
Degree in Social Work or equivalent.
Registration with Social Work England.
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience.
Proven ability to manage complex caseloads, including CP, CIN, and court cases.
Skills:
Excellent assessment and intervention skills.
Strong knowledge of safeguarding, child development, and family dynamics.
Ability to build relationships with children and families from diverse backgrounds.

Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
