Role Overview
Wokingham's Referral & Assessment Team is seeking a skilled and committed Social Worker to work with children and families at the first point of contact. The team's goal is to assess needs, manage risk, and provide support to ensure children receive the right help at the right time.
This is a fast-paced role that requires strong assessment skills, decision-making abilities, and an in-depth knowledge of safeguarding and children's legislation.
? Hybrid Working Model: Office-based 1 week in 3 for duty allocations.
Key Responsibilities
? Initial Assessments & Triage
Conduct timely and thorough assessments of children's needs under Section 17 & Section 47 of the Children Act 1989.
Make threshold decisions and determine appropriate intervention pathways.
Work collaboratively with families to ensure the best outcomes for children.
? Safeguarding & Crisis Intervention
Manage referrals from professionals and the public, ensuring child safety is prioritised.
Identify risk factors and make necessary referrals to Child Protection or Early Help services.
Respond to urgent cases, working effectively under pressure.
? Multi-Agency Working
Liaise with schools, police, health professionals, and other services to gather information and provide effective interventions.
Attend strategy discussions, CIN meetings, and CP conferences to ensure a coordinated approach.
? Case Management & Reports
Maintain clear and accurate case records in line with statutory requirements.
Prepare court reports, child protection plans, and assessments as required.
Work within Children's Services thresholds, policies, and best practices.
Candidate Requirements
? Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England
? At least 2 years' post-qualifying experience in a Referral & Assessment or Safeguarding team
? Strong assessment and risk management skills
? Experience in child protection, CIN, and legal proceedings
? Excellent report-writing skills
? Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
