Role Overview
Buckinghamshire's Children in Care Team is seeking a dedicated and experienced Social Worker to provide specialist support to children and young people who are looked after. You will be responsible for assessments, care planning, safeguarding, and court work, ensuring that the safety, wellbeing, and development of children in care remain a priority.
This is a fast-paced role that requires strong assessment skills, decision-making abilities, and knowledge of care planning and permanence pathways.
? Hybrid Working Model: Office-based when required.
Key Responsibilities
? Assessment & Care Planning
Undertake statutory social work assessments under the Children Act 1989 to assess needs, risks, and parenting capacity.
Develop care plans and pathway plans that promote stability and positive outcomes.
Work in collaboration with children, young people, parents, carers, and professionals to ensure the best outcomes.
? Safeguarding & Risk Management
Identify risk factors and take appropriate action to protect children in care.
Carry out direct work with children and young people to understand their wishes, feelings, and lived experiences.
Champion the rights and wellbeing of children and young people in care.
? Multi-Agency & Court Work
Work closely with partner agencies, including schools, health professionals, and legal services.
Attend care proceedings, court hearings, and statutory reviews as required.
Prepare court reports, care plans, and witness statements.
? Case Management & Recording
Maintain accurate case records using the electronic case management system.
Ensure that all work complies with legislation, policies, and best practice standards.
Participate in case audits and quality assurance processes.
? Professional Development & Teamwork
Receive regular supervision and support from a Team Manager.
Engage in continuous professional development (CPD) and reflective practice.
Cover duty work and support colleagues as needed.
Candidate Requirements
? Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England
? Minimum of 2-3 years' post-qualifying experience in Children in Care, Looked After Children, or a similar team
? Strong knowledge of the Children Act 1989, care planning regulations, and court processes
? Experience in care proceedings, court reports, and working with legal teams
? Excellent report-writing skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
? Commitment to achieving permanence and positive outcomes for children in care
