Role Overview
CAFCASS (Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service) is seeking an experienced Family Court Adviser (FCA) to work with children and families in Essex. You will be responsible for assessing the needs, risks, and circumstances of children involved in public and private law proceedings and making recommendations to the Family Court in the best interests of the child.
This is a fast-paced role requiring excellent assessment, planning, time management, and written skills.
? Hybrid Working - Office attendance required for induction, team meetings, supervisions, and court hearings.
? Flexible Working - Some home working possible, but must be available to travel across Essex when needed.
Key Responsibilities
? Public & Private Law Assessments
Engage directly with children, parents, and family members to assess their needs and ensure their voices are heard.
Conduct risk assessments using evidence-based practice to safeguard children's welfare.
Prepare Section 7 and Section 37 reports for the Family Court.
Work with high-conflict families, domestic abuse cases, and safeguarding concerns.
? Court Work & Case Management
Represent CAFCASS in court hearings and provide expert advice to the Family Court Judge.
Write high-quality reports with well-evidenced recommendations for child arrangements.
Liaise with legal professionals, social workers, and multi-agency safeguarding teams.
? Multi-Agency Working & Child Advocacy
Work in partnership with local authorities, social care teams, health services, schools, and police.
Ensure children's rights, wishes, and feelings are considered in all decisions.
Attend group supervisions, team meetings, and learning opportunities.
Candidate Requirements
? Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration
? Minimum of 2-3 years post-qualifying experience in child protection, court work, or CAFCASS-related roles
? Experience in writing court reports (Section 7 & 37), attending hearings, and providing expert advice
? Strong knowledge of the Children Act 1989, Family Law, and Public & Private Law proceedings
? Excellent risk assessment, case management, and advocacy skills
? Full UK Driving Licence & Access to Transport (required to travel across Essex)
