As part of the ongoing transformation programme, we are looking for a dedicated and experienced Senior Social Worker to join our Compass (Initial Contact) Team within Children's Safeguarding. This role is crucial in ensuring the welfare and protection of children by managing initial contacts, assessing risk levels, and making timely decisions regarding next steps.

Key Responsibilities
* Act as the main point of contact for public and agency concerns regarding child welfare and safeguarding.
* Assess the level of need/threshold based on presenting concerns and historical context.
* Facilitate strategy discussions/meetings to promote information sharing across key agencies.
* Ensure timely and accurate record-keeping on electronic systems such as LCS.
* Collaborate closely with partner agencies, including police, health services, and assessment teams.
* Lead and contribute to safeguarding projects and policy development within the team.
* Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced staff, supporting their development in managing complex cases.
* Act as a practice assessor and supervisor for social work students within the team.
* Deputise for the Team Manager when required.

Requirements
* Qualified Social Worker with registration with Social Work England.
* 3 years experience in Children's Social Care, particularly in safeguarding and assessment.
* Strong understanding of Shropshire's threshold document, relevant legislation, and statutory guidance.
* Experience in conducting risk assessments, leading strategy discussions, and making critical decisions regarding child protection.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, making timely and well-informed decisions.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
* Proven ability to provide mentorship, coaching, and professional development support to junior social workers.
