About the Role
Haringey Council's Benefit Service is seeking a dynamic and experienced Welfare Policy Manager to lead a strategic review aimed at enhancing the Council's approach to tackling inequality. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of financial support services and make a real difference in the lives of residents.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Benefits Manager, the successful candidate will lead a 3-month project across two teams to:
Build mutual understanding of team objectives, work, outputs, and outcomes.
Develop a cohesive approach to ensure clear and transparent service offerings for residents, officers, and members.
Implement joint reporting mechanisms to track team outputs and outcomes.
Design a new integrated service model to better support residents experiencing financial hardship.
Key Tasks Include:
Reviewing inflows and outflows within the service.
Assessing the current service offering and operational capacity.
Identifying staff development needs and areas of failure demand.
Analyzing outcome tracking and exploring data usage to boost service efficiency and effectiveness.
Expected Outputs
Comprehensive review documentation covering all aspects of the project.
An accessible point of contact for officers to contribute to the review and suggest improvements.
A draft project plan aimed at enhancing service delivery.
Proposals for a new integrated team structure, including draft job descriptions and potential growth bids.
Key Skills and Experience
Proven experience in project management with a track record of delivering results on time and within budget.
Expertise in planning, resource estimation, and progress monitoring.
Experience of working in a complex organizational environment, delivering projects at pace.
Strong ability to redesign processes and services for improved efficiency and value.
Excellent communication skills, including drafting project briefs and engaging with diverse stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams and senior managers.
Knowledge of local government operations and governance structures.

Proactive problem-solving attitude with a focus on finding practical solutions.
