To ensure the safe and effective operation of the highway network by inspecting roads, footpaths, and associated infrastructure. The Highways Inspector will identify and record defects, ensure timely maintenance, and help uphold public safety and compliance with statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct routine and reactive inspections of highways, footways, cycleways, street furniture, and signage.
Identify, assess, and record highway defects in accordance with council or statutory inspection guidelines.
Raise repair orders and follow up to ensure timely and compliant remediation by contractors.
Monitor works carried out on the highway by utility companies and third-party contractors to ensure compliance with permits and standards.
Respond to public and stakeholder complaints or enquiries related to the highway condition and safety.
Maintain accurate records and use asset management systems to log defects, inspections, and repair history.
Assist in the preparation of reports and evidence for insurance claims or legal proceedings.
Support emergency response during adverse weather conditions or unplanned events affecting the network.
Liaise with engineers, planners, and enforcement officers on roadwork coordination and planning.
